Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Introduce a cover letter and ask students to identify what it is and what is purpose is. If they can, they can also try to identify the parts.

Exposure (10-12 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

Students are shown a sample CL. The teacher elicits from them what each part of the letter includes. They are then shown slides explaining the three main kinds of paragraph and language tips. Each paragraph is shown and common language or intent of the pragraph is elicited from students A sheet with CL tips is shared Samples are also shared.

Productive Task(s) (20-22 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

Students are given ten minutes to write up their own cover letters. This is done as a group but each student works individually. Then, students are given a checklist to proofread each other's letters, and check each other's letters. Students are placed in BoRs to interact individually. Finally, several students share their letters with the class.

Feedback and Error Correction (10-12 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language
