Elementary level
Description
Materials
Main Aims
-
To provide clarification and practice of present perfect simple in the context of travel
Subsidiary Aims
-
To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation in the context of personal experiences
Procedure (37-52 minutes)
Lead-in on Google Form: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1gXprnT_CDUuGsOQZ56oCtjDpzf2SxsDbOlz7V-fsb2s/edit Ask ss to look at pictures and guess the topic of the day - travel. Go over images quickly and focus on "bucket list" - pre teach this term as it will occur in the reading and they may not be familiar with it. Ss may want to share something about their personal preferences or experience in travelling, allow a couple of minutes for that.
Ask ss to read the text on the google form and answer the gist task: https://forms.gle/BKEZnNMmRYfxbGFBA Check in plenary - see if there is any new vocab that may need clarification Use google form response tool to go over answers with students, make sure they understand the difference between 'I have visted' and "I have planned a trip to" (one has happened, one hasn't)
Back to Google doc - https://docs.google.com/document/d/1gXprnT_CDUuGsOQZ56oCtjDpzf2SxsDbOlz7V-fsb2s/edit Use blank page as a whiteboard to go over FMP Start with sample sentence taken from text: "“in my life I have explored many different parts of the world” And elicit: 1. meaning (unspecified time in the past) 1.1 IF they seem to be following ok, introduce signal words - just/never/already/recently 2. form (have/has +pp) - go over affirmative/negative/interrogative 3. pron (focus on contracted form 've / 's + connected speech) CCQs - provide an example and ask ss if it is correct or not - if not, ask to correct
Wordwall for controlled practice (fill in the gaps/choose correct option): https://wordwall.net/resource/54693089/present-perfect-practice Ideally, have ss do this in pairs in BORs so they can check answers together after the activity, however depending on tech issues you may decide to let them do it individually and then do a plenary check. Note mistakes for DEC later
Wordwall activity for freer practice: discussion questions promting students to share a story about their personal experiences. Do this in BORs and monitor to amke sure everyone is on task and check for tech issues. https://wordwall.net/resource/54689610/present-perfect-free-practice
use notes you have been making during freer practice to conduct DEC
