Procedure (32-45 minutes)
Show students a picture of the infamous serial killers Ria and Skina and ask them questions like ''who are they?'' , ''what did they do?'' , ''what information do you know about them?'' and introduce the subject of the lesson through the elicitation which is ''murder''
Following the ECDW, a total of four words will be illustrated on the powerpoint presentation with the meaning and eliciting the type of word (adjective, verb or noun) from students to check understanding as well as plenty of drilling and ICQs.
Show students the picture of the house in the back of the book (ex 1.a) and ask them questions like ''what is it? , ''is it old or new?'' . ''what is usually written in the back of a book?'' with realia model of a real book with me showing them the back of the book. ''what kind of book is this?'' and then give them 2 minutes individually only to read for gist to find the answer to the following question ''who is murdered and when did it take place?'' The second reading stage is (ex 1.b), ask students if they remember who are the people in the pictures and their relation to the victim. Demo the first example then distribute them in pairs to answer each photo in 3 mins. This will help students practice the possessive 's.
Focus on the text and tell students that they are going to read the story and listen to it at the same time. Play the audio for students to read and listen then set a time limit e.g: 4 mins and get students in pairs to re-read the text together and mark sentences 1-7 T or F. Students can compare answers together while they explain to one another why the F sentences are F. No answer keys will be handed, we shall answer it together while I nominate students to give their answers alongside the reason for their answers (C/O)
Put Students into groups of four, and then into pairs. Assign two the role of A's (police officers) and two the role of B's (friends / suspects). Give clear instructions to SS and Hand out role cards give them time to prepare their questions and stories. When they are ready, Re-divide the groups of four, so that each A is with a different B. Give few minutes for interviews and take notes for error correction while monitoring. C/O and linguistic feedback.
