Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Review vocabulary about places around town (bank, hospital, school).

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide a model of the task and highlight useful words and phrases

Vocabulary: nurse, teacher, construction worker, mill worker, seamstress, school, hospital, factory, lumber mill, job site CCQ: is this a school? etc A. Elicit answers 1. I am a ..... (nurse, teacher, construction worker, mill worker, seamstress) 2. I work at ... (the bank, the school, the hospital, the job site, the lumber mill, factory) 3. yes, I like my job/no, I do not like my job. B. Elicit questions 1. What do you do for a living? 2. Where do you work? 3. Do you like your job?

Task (8-10 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

Practice Q&A for each one. 1. What do you do for a living? I am a ... 2. Where do you work? I work at... 3. Do you like your job? y/n Practice as a group, then in pairs.

Controlled Praactice (6-8 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target language

Practice all Q&A with prompts. (Erase board) Worksheet, students fill in blanks. 1. What ___ you ____ for a _____ ? I am a _____. 2. Where ____ you ______? I _____ at _____. 3. Do you _____ your _____? yes/no

Freer Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with more practice of the task language

Hand each student a picture roll play page. Pair off and practice a conversation. Monitor students.

Error Correction (3-5 minutes) • To correct errors in conversation

Write on the board mistakes heard during conversation. Elicit answers. What you do for a living? (What do you do...) I work factory (I work at the factory)
