Procedure (45-55 minutes)
T greets the class, asks Q's to introduce topic: -Do you like true crime stories? -Do you read the news? (Ss discuss in pairs/teams)
T shows sample text on slides Activity: Read and tick the 5 elements included in the text. There are three options that you do not need. + answer 2 questions about the purpose of the text. (3 min) ✓Headline X Greeting ✓ Byline ✓Lead ✓Body X Signature X Contact information ✓Ending -What kind of text is it, an article or an interview? (article) -What is the writer's purpose? (to report a crime)
Activity: Give students handout 2. I. Match the description to the part it belongs to. II. Complete the outline of an article by putting the elements under the label they belong to.
Activity: Imagine you work at a newspaper. Write an article reporting a crime. Use these pictures to create the story. Remember to include all the parts to make it authentic. -Give students handout with outline.
