To provide gist and detailed review of food vocabulary in the context of food groups.
Procedure (35-45 minutes)
- put the ss in groups of four. - write the word " BREAKFAST" on the board. - give the ss 2 min to find as many words as possible for things they eat and drink for breakfast. - ask the ss to tell the other groups about the things they found and what is shared.
- show ss a datebook and try to elicit the word "diary" and relate the word to "food diary". - focus on the pic of ex.1 - ask ss what they think Laura writes in her food diary and why ( to lose weight or to control her weight. - give ss a minute to write the missing letters. tell them there is only one letter missing from each word. - get ss to check their answers by answering the question What did Laura have to eat and drink yesterday? 1- she had an apple 2- she had a banana - focus on the two-column headings and explain the difference, i.e. that countable words are used in the singular or plural and that they are things you can count (e.g. a banana, two apples). We think of them as individual units. Uncountable words are not normally used in the plural and are not thought of as individual units (e.g. rice, sugar, etc.).
- focus on the pictures of the 3 baskets Ex.2(c). - demo an example with the ss. -give them 2 minutes to finish and check the answers. - focus on the sentences and the words in bold. - give the ss 2 min to complete the rules. - elicit the rules and write on the board.
