Main Aims

  • - By the end of this lesson, learners will have been able to discuss how to make recommendations for places, food, etc.; describe places and how to make responses

Subsidiary Aims

  • • Showing learners when they should make recommendations, descriptions, responses. • Form questions and answers using the useful language to make discussions about recommendations, descriptions, responses.

Procedure

Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

1- Greet the ss with a smile to everyone to strengthen the rapport with them. 2- Show ss a picture of the continents and another three pictures accumulated on one slide: one is for just Australia, on which four main cities are clarified, and two pictures of recommended places there. 3- Ask ss to work in pairs and try to ss to guess the topic of the lesson. ( 2 minutes ) 4- After eliciting ' Australia and good places there' from the students, they will be asked to brainstorm about the topic until they come up with the word 'recommend' 5 If ss fail to come up with the intended vocab, they will be guided through some questions like: ' Do you feel happy when you visit good or famous places? Do you want to come back to that place again? Would you like your friends to go to that good place? So, What do you tell them?

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

1- Tell ss that they are going to work in pairs to answer Ex 3: ' In which place(s) does Eliane mention the following?' 2- Before playing the record, the teacher is going to clarify as soon as possible the vague words in the box such as Aboriginal culture, cosmopolitan, the Outback, etc by showing pictures or definitions. 3- Monitor and feedback. Instructions 1- In pairs, do Ex 3: 'In which place(s) does Eliane mention the following?'. (3 minutes) Use ICQs 1- Are you going to listen for detail or for specific information? ( specific information) 1- Are you going to write the names of cities in Australia or another country? (names of cities in Australia ) 2- Are you going to work individually or in pairs? (in pairs) 3- How much time do you have to do this exercise? (3 minutes)

Useful Language (8-10 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

1- Learners will be asked to work in pairs to make a list of different ways to make recommendations, describe places and respond. Then, they will change pairs and share & compare their answers. 3- The teacher shows learners on the PPT the recommended useful language used for expressing recommendations, describing places, and responding. 2- Write the new ones on the board to clarify them to ss as soon as possible. 3- Use exemplification to clarify the useful language. 4-Pronounce the useful language loudly and make Ss repeat, then choose some Ss to try pronouncing them.

Productive Task(s) (15-20 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

- Ss will be divided to two or three groups - The teacher will ask them to choose a place they'd like to talk about. - Ss will be given ( 4 minutes )to prepare for the speaking task and make notes about what they are going to say. - Ss complete the task. (10 minutes)

Feedback and Error Correction (8-10 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

- T is going to take notes throughout the lesson and write some examples of students' mistakes on the board. - The correction of these mistakes will be taken from ss if possible. - If there's still additional time, Ss will be given some ideas to discuss in pairs.
