Description

In this lesson, students will listen a record in order to improve their listening skills and to learn new vocabulary related to space tourism topic.

Main Aims

To provide gist and specific information in the context of space tourism

Subsidiary Aims

To provide clarification and practice of necessary vocabulary in the context of space tourism
To provide clarification and practice of compound nouns with numbers

Procedure (26-46 minutes)

Lead in (4-7 minutes) • to make an interesting introduction to teh lesson

I will ask them to have a look at the pictures, guess the vocabulary. When I make sure that they get the vocab, I ask them to guess the main content of the radio programme that they will lesson a little bit later. They will discuss in groups, then I will get feedback.

Setting a gist task (6-10 minutes) • Testing the students' general understanding of the record

I will ask them to listen the record and try and find what is is about. Then I give them a sentence that has several missing words and ask them to complete the sentence with the six word that we looked through in the begining the lesson. When they are able to fill the gaps, they will see the sentence that summarise the radio programme.

Answer the Questions (7-13 minutes) • Global understanding of the text

They will listen the record for the second time and try and find the answers of the questions about spesific details and discuss in pairs. If they are not able find the answers, I will give furher vocan support and play the record again. If still they have some diffuculties, I will pass out matching questions with the answers exercise.

Compound Nouns with numbers (5-11 minutes) • To learn how to make compound nouns with numbers

The students will do ex1 and ex2 with their partners during the lesson and I will help them to find the rule to make compund nouns with numbers themselves.

Semi-controlled speaking activity (4-5 minutes) • To practice learnt vocabulary

I will ask them to discuss in groups and find some reasons to go into space or not to go into space. At the end of the lesson I will ask each of the groups their final decision.
