Description

In this lesson, students will learn lexis related to rules of a conversation. They will start by seeing the target vocabulary on a text. It is always important to show the context to students so that they do now have problems with meaning. After that, they will work on activities to check their comprehension. Finally, they will be able to use the target vocabulary to share their opinion about the rules of a conversation.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-6 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

 T. spends time to build rapport with ss. by asking how they are. (1 min.)  T. shares the link, on Zoom’s chat, to Google sites. T. directs ss. to the first page and explains the objective.  T. tells ss. to read the questions. (3 min.)  Ss. have to go to breakout rooms and share their answers.  Ss. share their answers to the class. (2 min.)

Exposure (6-8 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

 T. tells ss. they will work on a text now.  T. direct ss. attention the text and the two questions in the page. T. asks ss. to read the questions and the answers. (1 min.)  T. asks ss. to read the text and check the correct answer. (2 min.)  Ss. go to the breakout room to share their answers. (2 min.)  Before they go, T. gives a demo to confirm instructions and uses ICQs (e.g. ‘are you working in pairs or groups? In groups). (1 min.)  T. monitors while ss. are working in pairs/groups.  T. nominates ss. to share their answers to the whole class. (2 min.)

Clarification (10-14 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

 T. shares his screen and asks ss. to go to the next part of the page.  T. tells ss. to click on a button to go a Google Jamboard. Ss. have to match the vocabulary with the correct definition. (2 min.)  T. gives a demo to confirm instructions and uses ICQs (e.g. ‘are you working on breakrooms? Yes, we are). (1min.)  T nominates ss. to share their answers. (2 min.)  T. asks ss. to go to Google sites again and focus on the vocabulary. (4 min.)  T. checks comprehension using other sentences and more CCQs on Zoom’s board. (2 min.)  T. uses the same sentences to explain pronunciation (‘number of syllables). T. asks ss. to repeat the sentences to check comprehension using Zoom’s board. (3 min.)

Controlled Practice (5-7 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

 T. directs ss. to the last part of the page and explains ss. they will practise the target vocabular.  Ss. have to read the 5 sentences and choose he correct answer based on the sentences. (1 min.)  Ss. have to work in breakout rooms and share their answers. (3 min.)  T. gives a demo to confirm instructions and uses ICQs (e.g., ‘do you have to work in groups or individually? In groups). (1 min.)  T. monitors ss. and take notes on some mistakes they may have.  T. nominates some ss. to share their answers. (2 min.)

Free Practice (3-5 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

 T. shares his screen and shows Ss. the last part of the Google site.  T. gives instructions: Ss. need to discuss the questions in groups in breakout rooms using the target vocabulary. (1 min.)  T. monitors. while ss. are working in groups. (4 min.)

Feedback & DEC (3-5 minutes) • Feedback on the Freer Practice

 While ss. discuss the questions, T. writes down some sentences with errors related to the target language. (3 min.)  T. nominates ss. to share their answers to the whole class. (1 min.)  T. shares his screen to work on some mistakes ss. had. (1 min.)
