Procedure (47-63 minutes)
I will play a read-aloud on the book, “A Little Scribble Spot: A Story About Colorful Emotions” by Diane Alber, and then play the song “Feelings and Emotions”
I will go through each of the PowerPoint slides to emphasize each emotion. I will show the students pictures of the emotion on magnets and place them on the corresponding emotion written on the whiteboard. I will also show the students the facial expressions and/or actions that are associated with each feeling.
I will ask the students if they know what the feeling displayed on the PowerPoint may mean or look like. I will ask students to show these emotions using different facial expressions or act the emotion. I will ask questions such as “what does feeling happy look like?” or “what makes you feel happy?”
Through practice, my students will now know the English words and meanings of different emotions. My task is to correct their pronunciation by asking them to repeat the words back to me.
I will have pictures of the different feelings that have been presented in the read-aloud and song and ask the students what they think the emotion is displaying. I will be placing each visual beside the corresponding emotion on the whiteboard.
In pairs, students will discuss with each other what a certain emotion may feel or look like. After, I will be asking for some volunteers to share some examples of what each pair discussed.
I will hand out a Matching Feelings Worksheet, where students will match a certain facial expression (picture) to the words. For early finishers, extra worksheets are provided: My Scribble Spot Colouring Worksheet, and a Word Search.
