Procedure (35-42 minutes)
Teacher displays a picture of a Family Tree on the board (PPT) and elicits key words from students to describe what it is and what is its use.
Students (2 by 2 or individually) review the previously learned vocabulary (famille et description physique et morale) with a matching activity. They have to associate the French word to its English translation. *For those who want a challenge, the English translation sheet won't be provided. The Answer Key is then displayed on the board and students check their answers.
Teacher takes 2-3 minutes to review question formation (formuler des questions avec être et avoir au présent). Activity: Each student is assigned a family member from the family tree printout. The students talk to each other, trying to figure out which family member the other person is. They ask questions to one another, for example: “As-tu des enfants? As-tu un frère? Es-tu un parent?” Once they have guessed their character, they write down the person's name on their family tree printout and find another person to interrogate. The activity is over when one of the students has fully filled out his family tree.
Students are instructed to write a short description of their assigned family member. They have to describe their hair and eye color as well as 2 more physical traits. They have to include 3 personality traits. They have to write how they are related to a given family member. The students double check their sentences for gender noun and adjective agreement. *If time permits, ask 2-3 students to share their character description with the class
Teacher displays 3 mistakes that have been made during the lesson (either pronunciation, spelling, meaning or form) and elicits the correction from the students.
