Main Aims

  • To provide gist and scan reading practice using a text about email in the context of wedding invitation

Procedure

Lead-in (5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Show to the students pictures and ask them "What comes to your mind when you see these pictures?" OCF show some questions and ask them to discuss them in pairs. OCF

Exposure (8 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading

Pre-teach: Ask them to match the word with its definition, and then check the answers in pairs.Ask CCQs about the word "rent." Do we pay money?Then show them the invitation, ask them what it is, and give them two questions to answer.I will elicit from the students: Is it an invitation or a response to the invitation? Then let them answer some questions alone, and I will model with them first, then let them check the answers and finalise the answer key.

Useful Language (7 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

Ask students to highlight the sentence that Mike wrote, which means that he's going to the wedding.Highlights of Mike's plan before and after the wedding. Considering the plans, I will write them on the board and elicit MFP from the students.Highlight the acceptance sentence. Ask them if it is formal or informal, and ask them if he will not attend the wedding. suggest a refusal sentence.

Productive Task (20 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

Divide the students into pairs and give them envelopes; then ask them to write a wedding invitation to his or her partner. (Show them the criteria for how to write an invitation.)Ask them to swap the invitation with their partners and ask them to reply to the invitation.(Show them the criteria for how to write an invitation.)Finally, ask them to swap the invitation again to let their partners highlight the acceptance or refusal sentence and also highlight their plans, and make sure that they use the right form for writing their plans.

Feedback and Error Correction (5 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

While the students are writing the invitation and its reply, I will monitor them and take notes once they are finished. I will write the errors and correct them together, as well as highlight the good sentences.
