Materials
Main Aims

To provide review, clarification and practice of WILL for predictions
Subsidiary Aims
-
GTKY - as this is the first lesson with the new TP group, and some new students are also expected. Some of the activities should help with getting to know the ss as people and as learners of English
-
We'll practice speaking and listening on the subject of positive thinking.
Procedure (46-62 minutes)
T introduces the idea of "optimist" and "pessimist" by drawing a glass of wine on the board. Is it half full or half empty..... It is important to understand that this is a philosophical position. Both are looking at the same phenomenon. Ask around the class...are you an optimist or a pessimist?
Give the YOU part from page 30 and ask students what a pessimist would say in these situations. This is for them to discuss. T should watch carefully and see what sort of problems they have.
Depending on what seems to be the highest priority a number of possible sections could be included in this slot: A - distinguish going to and WILL B - Focus on the form of WILL C - pronunciation D - help with doing the activity itself
hand out between pairs possible answers HO based on p30 / or play recording 3.3 and use it as a dictation
with the paper folded over - first look at the picture of the cloud to elicit "it's going to rain" The look at the other part and consider - why is this different?
handout from the grammar bank at the end of the book
write up the two words want and won't. show the transcription and play the six recordings as a dictation. What are they saying?
Use the handout from the Teachers book as a second test. This is PW so that the teacher can monitor what ss are saying and writing.
Listen for gist with the introduction to a radio programme. Try to predict the advice callers will give. Listen to check what they said. play again with answers.
speaking - controlled practice with "good luck" etc. worksheet freer practice with the worksheet "are you a positive thinker?"
