Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (8-10 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

1. What is the difference between an email and a memo? 2. The students will discuss for two minutes. 3. The students will share their ideas and answers with the teacher. 4. Briefly decide the difference.

Pre-Reading/Listening (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

1. In pairs, the students will look at the paper. 2. What is the paper about? 3. Underline the problematic words. 4. In pairs, try to figure out the meaning of these words. 5. Briefly share the meanings with the teacher.

While-Reading/Listening #1 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

1. In pairs, the students will go through the paper and figure out the following: a. Is this an actual memo? b. What is the purpose of this reading? c. Make a list of the steps needed to write a memo!

While-Reading/Listening #2 (14-16 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

1. Summarize the steps needed to write a memo. 2. Decide on a topic to write a memo about (can be discussed with the teacher). 3. Compare topics and discuss whether they are easy to write a memo about. 4. Share your ideas with the teacher.

Post-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

1. In pairs, the students rewrite a summary of the memo. 2. In pairs, What can be changed? How to make it easier to communicate? 3. Share your ideas with the teacher.
