To practice and revise functional language to give suggestions and reply to suggestions.
Subsidiary Aims

To provide fluency practice in the context of birthday gift suggestions.
Procedure (32-46 minutes)
- Introduce the word "gift". Ask students to brainstorm and send in chat or speak out loud different gift ideas, display ideas on the jamboard
- Display a conversation. Tell students I want them to read it and decide only what the conversation is about. - Have students read the conversation aloud. - Send responses in the chat: what is the conversation about?
- Display the same text with the TL highlighted. Tell students that today we will discuss how to talk about gift suggestions.
Starting the conversation: - What should we get her? Saying your idea: - We should get/buy her + noun. - What about + noun ? - Why don't we get/buy her + noun ? Agreeing/Disagreeing - Yes, that's a good idea. - No, I don't think so.
- Show students the new conversation using the TL with gaps. Tell them to fill the gaps with the word choices. - Model first question together. - Send students the jamboard and tell them to find the slide with their name to complete the activity. - 4 minutes work time - 3 minutes to check answers with a partner in BORs - Come back together, display answers, ask if students have any questions
- Tell students to pretend it is Ricardo's birthday. What gift should we get him? Tell them to use the TL and the model from controlled practice to have a conversation with their partner. - Model an example conversation with the TL displayed. - Send jamboard in the chat and ask students to take a screenshot of the instructions and models to reference during their conversation. - 5 minutes BORs - Come back together, any questions?
- Display errors with the TL collected during controlled and free practice. - Elicit student help in correcting errors
