Procedure

Lead in (8-10 minutes) • To elicit and familiarise students with vocabulary

Begin class by getting all students in a circle. CCQ: What days make up the weekend? hopefully they will answer Saturday/Sunday. I will elicit weekend activities, though the art of mime! "look at me and guess what I like to do at the weekend" (I will have back up pictures for the more difficult ones). When they guess them I will drill and get them to do the action with me. This will be good for any kinesthetic learner. Engaging students will help their receptive skills when they come to listening.

Introducing "do you..." (6-5 minutes) • Get students confident in asking questions

Staying in a circle, will throw a ball to a student and ask "what do you do at the weekend". they can answer with their chosen activity. Drill the conversation until everybody has had a go. Task helps fluency as well as vocab.

Listening task 1 (10-10 minutes) • Gist listening

Chest the H/O 1. Pointing at picture "I will play a recording, listen to Robert & fill in the gaps in question 1". ICQ: Are you doing question 2? What question are you doing? Listen to Recording Simple listening task just aims to help students practice their gist listening. In pairs get students to peer check each others work. Concept checking; Ask Roberts questions to students.

Pre-listening task 2 (6-6 minutes) • Listening for specific information

Put in groups of three, Point at the picture of Robert & Tanya and ask " do you think they are good friends?" (wait for some responses) "look at the statements for question 2" In your groups decide if you think they are true or false". CCQ; Tanya is a man, true or false? ICQ: what question number are your doing? Are you doing 2b? I member of each group will them come up to the board to write there groups answers. Asking groups to make a prediction is another way of engaging their receptive skills.

While listening task 2 (5-6 minutes) • Listening for specific information

Explain to Ss "Listen to Robert & Tanya, look at part B of question 2 and circle the correct answer" Listen to recording. This task helps students practise listening for specific information. Recording finishes ask if they think Robert was trying to ask Tanya out?, by their response to this question I will judge if they need to listen again. WC FB/check predictions

Using skills/ End Game. (10-8 minutes) • Using their new skills productively

Give H/O 2 (question 3) "remember the questions from earlier?" "listen to the text & circle the correct answer" depending on time we can have a quick class feedback session or the students can stand up and move around the class speaking and checking answers.
