Description

In this lesson, students learn vocabulary about relationships and some phrasal verbs.

Procedure

Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

- Ask the students to look at the photos on WB and say what sort of relationship they think the people in the photo have with each other. -In pairs, the students are handed activity 1p20 and

Pre-reading/ Vocabulary (10-15 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

- I read then drill the students the words in the task (2p20), modelling pronunciation and word stress (great-grandfather, acquaintance, fiancee). - Then in pairs, students disscuss the differences in the words. - I ullustrate some of relashionships and invite students to do so ( e.g: family tree) -- Deaw the students` attention to family disputes ( drill this word and tell its form). - In groups, I ask them to discuss what often causes family disputes.

Pre-Reading (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

-I do the first sentence by matching the two halves as an example then, - I hand the students the activity (2p20) and ask them to do the same in pairs. -Then they are asked to exchange the answer in a WC.

While-Reading. (6-8 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

- Deaw the students` attention to family disputes ( drill this word and tell its form). - In groups, I ask them to discuss what often causes family disputes. -I show the students the cover of the novel and ask them to guess what is about. They listen to the summary and check their guesses. - Then, I hand them the extract to read individually then to summarize it in one sentence. - HC feedback.

Post-Reading. (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

- I hand the students an activity (3p20) then ask them to re-read the text again, and decide if the sentences are true or false. -In groups, they disscuss a task ( different task for each group) and write about it.
