Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Students will be asked to guess what the most common New Years Resolution is. They will have a moment to give ideas before being shown the answer, which is to lose weight. Students will be asked if this is true for them and if so, how people plan to commit to this resolution. "What can we do to lose weight?"

Test #1 (6-8 minutes) • Check students' use of the target language

Students will be given a google form with grid answers. In pairs, they will discuss which sentence is best matched with the meaning. Students will rationalize their answers to each other based solely on what they know from previous lessons or life experiences.

Teach (12-18 minutes) • To clarify areas of the target language where students had difficulty in the first test stage

First students will review the initial test to clarify meaning of the target language. Next students will be led through a system of sentence creations to identify and understand form and pronunciation. Students will as a group analyze which words come in which order using the sentences in the initial test as a sample.

Test #2 (8-10 minutes) • Check students' use of the target language again and compare with the first test

Students will be divided once more into break out rooms (if possible, pairing if not possible) and be given the google form once more. Questions 2-5 will each have one complete sentence detailing context, and the first half of a second sentence and asked to complete the sentences with their own thoughts and ideas. These sentences should be logical and formed correctly. This will test their understanding of meaning and form.

Free practice (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Students will be given the prompt of The teacher would like to build muscle. They will then have 5-8 minutes to speak to one another about their suggestions and what they believe is necessary and/or unnecessary to build muscles. The teacher will observe and note down a few sentences detailing good language and language in need of correction. Students will take the final 3-4 minutes to review these sentences.
