Main Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation in the context of misunderstandings.

  • To provide practice of functions in the context of misunderstandings.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (5-8 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

1. In pairs, take turns telling each other about a situation when you had a misunderstanding. 2. Share your situation with the teacher.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

1. Read the flow charts in 6A. 2. In pairs, role-play the situation. 3. Role-play with another student. 4. Teacher will provide support on language and pronunciation.

Useful Language (8-10 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

1. Reread the flow charts. 2. Highlight the hotel vocabulary. 3. In pairs, figure out the meaning of the words. 4. Make a sentence for each word. 5. Share your sentences with the teacher.

Productive Task(s) (18-20 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

1. Change roles. 2. Turn to page 159. 3. In pairs, role-play the situation. 4. Role-play in a different pair.

Feedback and Error Correction (8-10 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

At this stage, the teacher will provide feedback on fluency and accuracy.
