Materials
Main Aims
-
Students will be able to use the present perfect simple and present perfect continuous to talk about their lives up to now
Subsidiary Aims
-
Students will be able to read about travel book authors and work out verb tense rules as a result
Procedure (29-41 minutes)
I will present a copy of my Dubai & Abu Dhabi Lonely Planet book and ask them if they like to travel. Then, I will ask them questions using the two verb tenses I will be covering in the lesson. Finally, I will ask them if they identified the two helping verbs used in the tenses: have and have been.
At this stage, I will use the whiteboard to present the construction of both verb tenses. This will be left on the board so that they can continue to refer back to it if need be.
I will point them to the text on page 22 and have them work through exercise 5 while using the text to help them answer the questions.
Here, I will present them with my worksheet where they can further clarify the meaning of the two verb tenses and study the various uses of each tense.
Now, we shall return to the worksheet, exercise 6. As a group, they can work through these eight exercises.
They will return to my worksheet and answer questions.
Lastly, they will work both individually and as a group on exercise 8, drawing a timeline of their lives and using that information to create sentences using both verb tenses.
