Description

In this lesson, students will learn the uses of infinitive through the reading text.

Materials

Main Aims

To provide clarification of Infinitive "to" in the context of advices about meeting your partner's parents

Subsidiary Aims

To provide gist, scan and detailed reading practice using a text about how to survive meeting your girlfriend's parents for the first time in the context of advices

Procedure (27-39 minutes)

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

In this stage, I will ask my students about two pieces of advice for somebody who is going to meet his her partner's parents for the first time.

exposure (3-5 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

In this stage, I will ask them to read the text quickly and tell me if their advices were in the text or not.

Highlighting (5-7 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

In this stage, I will ask them to read the text completely and fill the blanks with the verbs in the list. then checking together.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

In this stage, I will ask them to read one of the advices in the text. I will write it on a board and teach them about when we use infinitive. I will also teach them its structure and negative form.

Controlled Practice (4-6 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

In this stage, I will ask them to do part b on page 140. then we will check together in the class.

Free Practice (4-6 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

In this stage, I will give them a topic to speak in their group. It is expected to use infinitive " to" while they are talking.
