Procedure (61 minutes)
Show students a photo of a photo of someone cancelling plans via text message. Teacher then asks students: - What do you see in the photo? - What does the photo tell you? - What does the text say? Students respond. Next teacher asks them: - Have you ever been in this situation? - How do you feel when this happens to you? Students respond. Teacher tells that changing arragements will be the lesson for the day,
Students listen to a phone conversation between two friends, Pedro and Sara, and complete 6 extracts from the phone conversation. Each extract has a gap that students need to fill in with predetermined words. The teacher plays another audio that says the answers to the previous actitivy. Students listen and check if their answers are correct. Then, the teacher tells students to say the correct sentences aloud.
MEANING TASK/ GROUP TASK: Teacher has the students go to the correct slides on Google to complete first a matching task between phrases to change plans and their uses, some of which may be new to students. FB: Teacher provides answer key. PRONUNCIATION: Students practice pronunciation by finding linking words and contractions in the phrases. FORM: Students do 5 exercises involving the phrases and their form.
CONTROLLED PRACTICE: The teacher shows students the different stage of a conversation and the stages aims. Students match the stages to their aims. This activity helps students understand the stages of a conversation and how to cancel plans politely.
FREER PRACTICE: Students work in pairs to create a conversation using the language learned. Students choose a topic for the conversation by selecting a number that hides the topic. Students work in pairs in separate break out rooms. Teacher gives time limit of 5 minutes. Students go back to the main room and share their conversation with the class.
Teacher provides learners with feedback and inform them of how they did with regards to content and language used.
