Procedure (38-52 minutes)
vocabulary revision. In the previous lesson learned some words about travelling. The revision will be in the form of hot seat game
T asks Ss to focus on exercise 3.a from the Empower book (p.21). Ss complete the sentences that were based on the listening activity that was discussed in the previous lesson. After checking the answers, T asks Ss to underline the verbs in the sentences
-T chooses 2 sentences from the exercise to highlight the past continuous tense. -T asks Ss to tell her how many actions there are in the sentences and underlines them (2). -T asks which action is short and which action/verb is short and which one is longer
1-T asks Ss which verb is in simple past, then asks them what does the -ing form reminds them of (continuous). 2-T elicits that short finished actions where in simple past and the long action was continuous 3-T elicits the name of the new tense (past + continuous) 4-T elicits the form: was/were + verb-ing 5-T drills the pronunciation with the whole group
1- Ss do an exercise 2B-a (p147) to use the new form correctly. Then check in pairs 2- Exercise 2B-c: T needs to elicit again short vs long actions and give an example
-Mime game to make sentences using past continuous form -Ss are divided into 2 teams. One student from each team will mime some actions for their team members who are supposed to guess the sentences and say them in past continuous form
-Ss discuss some questions in the past continuous form - The questions will be revealed in the form of (whisper game) -Ss will be divided to groups and whisper the already made questions to each other and then write them on the board -T checks the questions with ss -Ss sit in their groups to discuss the questions
