Description

This is a speaking lesson whose intention is to provide students with opportunities to develop speaking skills in the context of small talks at weddings.

Main Aims

  • To provide oral fluency by practicing small talks at a wedding, share secrets and do some gossiping.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To practice expressions for telling a secret or registerin surprise.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T- shares screen and shows ppt slide 1 with a wedding picture and lead-in questions: 1. Who´s who at a wedding? 2. Have any of you been one of these people at a wedding ? 3. What weddings have you been to and what roles have you played? St will do this in groups.

Exposure (5-6 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

T displays ppt slide 2 and 3 and explain the class they are all invited to a wedding party. T shows the invitation. Sts must imagine the bride and the groom are not sitting in the same table and they are going to gossip about the married couple and their family.

Useful Language (6-8 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

T displays ppt slides with the guidelines they have to follow each time they talk to someone new. T uses CCQs for the following lexis and phrases: Lexis and CCQS 1. Gossip CCQs: Synonym word? (rumor) CCQs:Does it involve not confirm details about other people? (Yes) Phrases and CCQs 1. I shouldn´t really say this but... CCQ: Does this mean the person is not going to say something? (No) CCQ: Does this mean the person is gossiping? (Yes) 2. You may not believe this but... CCQ: Is the person forcing you to believe in what he/she is going to say? CCQ: Is it going to be a real or false information? 3. Please, don´t tell anyone I told you... CCQ: Does this mean that you have to keep the secret? CCQ: Is the person asking you to tell someone else? 4. Somebody told me that... CCQ: Does this mean that is 100% real information? CCQ: Does this mean you are going to believe on what you hear?

Productive Task(s) (10-16 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

T displays ppt slides to show St the role cards related to their role in the wedding party. T assigns the role card to Sts. T shows an example with the prompt questions to initiate the small talk at the wedding and tell the gossip with the second set of prompt sentences. T ask one of the St to use one of the reaction phrases to react to the gossip. T monitors the small talks and records correct and incorrect language. T conducts OCFB and elicit answers from students about their gossips.

Feedback and Error Correction (8-10 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

T displays the white board with examples of correct and incorrect language. T conducts OCFB and reviews students language use, eliciting wich examples need to be corrected T reviews pronunciation errors and elicits correct pronunciation from Ss. T praises correct use of language from exampples.
