To introduce and provide practice of writing a short email (50 words) inviting friends (in another country) to visit you

  • To provide process and product writing practice of a email in the context of of inviting friends from another country

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide clarification of simple future and verbs in the context of traveling with friends

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T greet Ss. 
T shares the screen and opens the presentation (google slides). 
T shows an image to set the context: -A man sitting by a computer with a cup of coffee during the morning. Q) What is the man doing? He’s checking his email. He’s reading an email. T shows two more images to lock context: T tells students that we are now going to analyze an email.

Useful Language (8-10 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language and structure for coming productive tasks

T shares screen with email to read. (Google Slides) I: Read the email (30 secs). Give 3 questions to the Ss; Let the answer individually and then discuss in class (2 min) (Google Forms). I: According to the email you read, respond the following questions. Do it Individually. I: When finished, write in the chat box that you are done. 1. ICQ: What is the activity about? 2. ICQ: Is this activity Individual? Share google form via chat box. 1. Q)What is the purpose of the email? Asking a friend to come visit from another country. 2. Q)What type of email is this, formal or informal? Explain why? Informal Open answer, Ss will share in OCFB If students answer formal, explain to them that usually emails to friends and family are considered to be informal. T shows email again and introduces email response. (Google Form). I: Read the email response (30 secs). Give 4 questions to the Ss; let them answer individually and then discuss in groups via BRs (4 min). 1. Q) What is the main language present in both emails? Future Tense 2. Q) What are the sections/parts of the email? Email Address, Date, Subject,Greeting, Body, Goodbye, Signature, attachments. 3. Q) According to the emails, is Mario going to Cancun? Yes 4. Q) Which one is a true statement according to the emails? 5. Q) Should emails be short and concise or long and detailed? Either. Depends on the intention of the email. Open answer, Ss will share in OCFB If students answer formal, explain to them that usually emails to friends and family are considered to be informal.

Productive Task(s) (18-20 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

T will share jamboard to Ss T will provide a third email in which a friend from Morocco is inviting them over. I: read the following email (30 secs) ICQ: What is happening in the email? Bazam is inviting us over to Morocco to meet his family and friends. I: You will write a response to Bazam’s email, explaining why you can’t make it. Writing (10 min) Share with your partner and check each other’s email with the checklist provided via BRs (10 min)

Feedback and DEC (8-10 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

Nominate 2 Ss to share their emails with the class. Compare with the checklist Provide DEC if needed. Ask Ss for any questions Thank Ss.
