Procedure (33-45 minutes)
What makes you happy? Introduce what makes me happy. Happiness is... Happy face. Brainstorm students things that make the students happy and write on WB.
Introduce HO - comments taken from web about ..... happiness. Show handout - This is a website about happiness. Look at pictures - Demo 1 picture - What is this person doing? These people wrote about what they like doing. I would like you to read it quickly to find out what makes each person happy. Then match the writing to the picture on your own. You have 2 minutes. Now I would like you to check your answers with your partner. Check answers with whole class. Check sts understand key vocab. What can they see in the pictures: fishing boat, drums, dancing tango, taking a photo.
I would like you to read the comments again. This time look for three things you like and underline them. For example, I would underline 'I also enjoy a good book'. Ask a few sts if they also like reading. Sts underline 3 things. In pairs find out what your partner likes. Introduce true/ false HO. In pairs read the statements and write whether they are true or false. Check with another pair. Go over with class and clarify any misunderstandings. (If sts finish quickly they will look at and complete the pronoun table.)
Look back over text and complete the statements, for example, Berthe 'likes talking to her husband', and 'watching something good on ........?' (TV). Check your answers with your group. Whole class feedback.
Show Snoopy happiness posters. In groups sts to devise their own 'Happiness is ....' posters. Put up on WB to display, Sts to circulate and look at each others posters. What were the favourite things which make us happy. Finish with Snoopy poster 'Happiness is ... one thing to one person and another thing to another person'.
