Description

In this lesson ss will be provided speaking fluency practice in the context of summarizing and article and asking questions arising from it.

Materials

Main Aims

  • To provide students practice fluency in using the target language. Ss will summarize an article and make questions arising from it.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation in the context of compulsive shopping.
  • Students will be able to accurately use functional language to engage conversation about shopping.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (4-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will ask my students to think about the word : addicted and what words come to their minds in order to do brainstorming. T will write down Ss ideas. 1. What comes to your mind when you listen the word: ADDICTED. alcohol, drugs, shopping, food, etc ... 2. How often do you go shopping? How often do you shop online? 3. Do you truly buy what you need? T will ask ss to use a calendar, discuss and mark in OCFB their recent shops, whether are necessary or not.

Exposure (1-2 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

-T tells students that we are focusing on how to summarize ideas taken from a text and make questions arising from it. -Read the dialogue in the google forms link. Pay special attention and recognize If they are doing recap or making questions arised form the text, or both. And the expressions that they use to tell us that summary. -T displays on the screen some language and some expressions. (I'd be interest to know, what other people think ... The article claims that ...) Ss say which ones they have identified. -T will ask: Are they doing a recap from the text? yes If so, how do you know? the bolded words What evidence do you have in the text? The article claims that ...

Useful Language (5-6 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

MFPA using four useful expressions from the Content Preparation task. (M) It raises the question whether ... Formal / neutral formal / neutral / infromal (F) Pronoun + verb in present + the subj + complement (P) 2 syllables. Usually the stress is on the first one. (A) Appropriacy is neutral.

Productive Task(s) (10-20 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

In pairs, students have a short conversation using the learned expressions. Round 1: Use the learned expressions to talk about what calls your attention from the text. Round 2: Use the learned expressions to talk about what do you learn from the text. Round 3: Use the learned expression to talk about what questions come to you rmind after reading the article. After each round, OCFB to share what they found out about their partner.

Feedback and Error Correction (5-6 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

OCFB with the group - how did they find the conversations? Based on what will the T listen from their conversations, I´ll decide which expressions were weak.
