Description

In this lesson, ss will participate in several activities for time phrases and prepositions. They will notice the target language in a text by using an email and practice vocabulary and grammar. They will practice forming negative sentences. Ss will participate in a mingle activity before practicing forming questions. Finally, ss will participate in a group activity to practice the TL.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Ask ss questions about what do you do in the morning? \ in the evening \ at night.

Test #1 (8-10 minutes) • To gauge students' prior knowledge of the target language

The language focuses here on: time phrases with on, in, at, and every. in the morning in the evening in the afternoon at night in the week at the weekend everyday on Sunday elicit ICQs

Teach (15-20 minutes) • To clarify areas of the target language where students had difficulty in the first test stage

T writes two sentences on the board and clarifies the pronunciation of the time phrases. Drilling\ MPF Elicit CCQs by asking ss about the preposition we use before days\ part of the day\ time.

Test #2/ controlled (8-10 minutes) • Check students' use of the target language again and compare with the first test

Activity 1 (Vocabulary) Demonstrate the activity. Elicit ICQs Ss will practice the time phrases with on/ in/ at and every in a text (an email). Ss will choose the correct preposition. Then T asks them to check their answers in pairs. Then T gives feedback. Activity 2 (Grammar) Demonstrate the activity. Elicit ICQs. Ss will practice forming negative sentences. Then T asks them to check their answers in pairs. Then T gives feedback.

Semi-controlled (8-10 minutes) • Check students' use of the target language

Demonstrate the activity and elicit ICQs. Ss practice the target language by choosing the correct preposition for the time phrase. T gives feedback. Then ss practice forming yes or no questions. T gives feedback. Ss ask each other these questions and collect information. T asks students to share the names they collected.

Free practice (5-7 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

T demonstrates the activity and elicits ICQs. Ss will practice the target language through a game called snap. T gives feedback.
