Main Aims

  • To practice and revise prepositions of place in the context of home offices

Subsidiary Aims

  • Provide practice of reading for gist in the context of home offices
  • Provide practice of speaking with prepositions of place in the context of home offices.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will show Ss two pictures related to home offices. And I'll ask them two questions: Do you have a space in your house to work? Is it comfortable? I'll tell them my personal experience and then ask for some examples.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

I'll show Ss two texts related to home offices and some possible pictures for that texts. They'll have to read fast in order to complete a gist task. Based on what they read, they are going to match each text with the correct photo. I'll do this in Forms, then conduct OCFB. After that I'll question Ss, why they have chosen their answers, to go to the clarification stage. ICQs: Do you have to read carefully? - No, do it fast. Do you need to match the text to a picture? -Yes

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

Meaning: I'll show students some examples of the reading: There are books on my desk. I have an outlet under the desk. The outlet is next to the trash can. There’s a light bulb above the desk. Tese will be at first without the prepositions, but I'll help them to complete with CCQs. CCQs: Is there a distance between the objects? Is it up or down? Are the objects making contact? Is it at the side? After that, I'll show them some images of a ball in different positions from a box. They'll complete in a google forms, matching the sentences with the correct pictures: The ball is ______ the box. (above - on - under - next to). Form: For form, I'll show them two examples with a picture. Then, show them a sentence model that they can use to give me more examples. I'll ask them to give me a few: There are pens above the chair. There is a chair next to the trash can. There is a/are+ object + _________ (preposition) + a/an/the/my + object Pronunciation: After showing the answers of the ball excersise, I'll elicit pronunciation with drilling of each preposition. Based on the examples of form, I'll ask them to repeat after me, do some drilling chorally and individually. I'll also apply the backchaining technique for full sentences.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

For this section, they will need to fill the gaps of some sentences, following what they see in pictures. They will do this individually and then go check their answers in BORs. After that, I'll conduct OFCB.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

I'll ask students to write three sentences using the TL, I'll show them an example and then I'll give them a slide for themselves and give them some time to write. After that, they are going to compare in BORs. When they return to the main class, they'll share their experiences. I will monitor them and conduct DEC.
