Main Aims

  • To provide gist, detailed, specific information and inference listening practice using a text about radio programme in the context of Hollywood actors.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide gist, detailed and scan reading practice using a text about an audio text of a radio programme in the context of Hollywood actors.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (5-8 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

1. What is your favourite type of movie? 2. Can you recommend one to us? 3. Who's your favourite actor/actress? 4. Share your answers with the teacher.

Pre-Reading/Listening (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

1. What do you know about the people in the pictures? Can you mention some of their work? 2. Who do you think has won an oscar? 3. What makes an actor a good actor?

While-Reading/Listening #1 (15-20 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

1. Read the questions in 3A. 2. Listen to the first part of the audio. 3. In pairs, answer the questions. 4. Share your answers with the teacher. 5. Read the questions in B. 6. In pairs, discuss the questions. 7. Share your answers with the teacher. 8. Read the sentences in C. 9. Listen to the second part of the audio. 10. In pairs, determine which is true and which is false. 11. Share your answer with the teacher.

While-Reading/Listening #2 (12-15 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

1. Read the incomplete sentences in 4A. 2. Listen to the whole programme and take notes if needed. 3. Listen again while completing the sentences. 4. In pairs, check your answers. 5. Listen again while reading the audio script. 6. correct your mistakes if there are any. 7. Share your answers with the teacher

Post-Reading/Listening (12-15 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

1. Think of a role that an actor/your favourite actor has played. 2. Write down a few ideas about the actor's performance and how they prepared for it? 3. Share your ideas with a partner. 4. Ask your partner questions about their actor.

Feedback (5-8 minutes) • To clarify areas of the target language where students had difficulty in the first test stage

At this stage, the teacher will provide feedback on accuracy.
