Subsidiary Aims
-
To provide accuracy and fluency speaking practice in a conversational role-play in the context of car accident
Procedure (36-53 minutes)
I will show them some pictures of car accidents and ask them what do you think about these pictures. I will ask them if they had any similar experiences with the car accident. Here we have a small discussion about car accidents.
At the start of this stage, I will give them HO1 and ask them to read it individually. Then I will group Ss by giving them three different names (Hyundai, Kia, Saipa). Then I will give Ss the Guided Discovery HO2. The HO has three differnt parts (meaning, function and form). I will ask them to fold the HO in the way that they can only see the Meaning and ask them to answer the following questions: 1. Are these sentences about the past or the present? 2. In sentence “a”, did the actions happen at the same time? 3. In sentence “a”, were the actions in progress in the past? 4. In sentence “b”, which action is a short action? 5. In sentence “b”, did the actions happen at the same time? 6. In sentence “b”, which action started first? 7. Which sentence talks about a completed action in the past? 8. What tense is in bold? 9. Which tense is underlined? Then I will ask them to unfold the paper and do the function part. Finally I ask them to change their group and do the last part (form). After doing the last part I will give them HO3, which is the answer key.
I will give them HO4 and ask them to answer it individually. I will give them HO5. Then I will group them by guvung them the names (A and B) ans ask them to make a line in a way A Ss stand in front of each other and play the role of the given conversation.
I will ask them to write about a car accident that they had before and describe it by using HO1.
