Description

In this lesson students will reflect on the rights of workiers in the USA comparing it with their own country as an international lawyer. Debate will be around the problem of forced labor, human traffictting and modern day slavery in general and debating on possible solutions.

Main Aims

  • To provide accuracy speaking practice in a Students will be able to express themselves fluidly when using terms related to law. in the appropiate meaning. in the context of By means of debating on labor strikes and demand for wages.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide gist and detailed listening practice using a text about Human trafficing, slave labor. in the context of working in under violation of rights.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

PPT / Jamboard with 2 images of workers in a field and factory with the quesions, 'Where are the people?' and 'Rights or no rights?' OCD

Gist (8-10 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading

Present ppt slide 3 wiht the reading titled 'What are workers rights?' Sts. debate the question for 2 minutes giving their views and then proceed to scan the text and answer the quesion in ONE summary sentence. This will be followed by the more indept reading then on the 2 slides that follow. Comprehension check to be made by meand of retelling / summerising.

MP (8-10 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

Productive Task(s) (18-20 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

Video on post pandemic and future of work. Speculate on the content of the video for 1 minute. Then play video for 30 seconds - sts. take note and then compre their answers. Give feedback and continue with the other 30 seconds and repeat the same for the video. At the end studnets retell and / or write a summary of the video.
