Procedure (45 minutes)
To begin with the class, the teacher will share the screen and the presentation on Google Jamboard with the students. She will ask the students to look at some pictures, read a really short conversation and make predictions about the possible topic for the class. After that, she will clarify the topic for the class which is about misunderstandings.
During this stage, students will read a short passage about a cultural misunderstanding; they will have two activities to do. The teacher is going to ask them two questions: "Was that a misunderstanding? What kind? (culture, time, place)?" The second task is going to be focused on details. She is going to share a Google forms link with the students to answer some questions about the different misunderstandings. They will have to read it answer five questions in four minutes. "So, how much time do we have for this activity?" "How many questions do we have to answer?" After that, they will work in breakout rooms to share their answers, and finally, the teacher will give them feedback.
This stage is going to be divided into three parts. During the first part, the teacher will ask students to match some sentences with the type of misunderstanding (about people, places, time, or other). Then, they will focus on form, they will share if the expressions they are using are formal, informal or neutral and also, they will share what tense was used in these sentences. "Is this sentence in present or past?". Finally, the teacher is going to practice pronunciation with the students, she will ask some students to repeat individually, and then they will practice back chaining.
For the productive task, the students are going to work in different pairs. They will talk about one or two misunderstandings they have had. They will work in three different pairs, so they will have the opportunity to listen to different ideas. After that, they will come back to main screen and share some of the ideas with the teacher, share some opinions and how they felt with the activity.
The teacher is going to show a word document to the students with some statements (correct and wrong statements). The teacher is going to ask the students to analyze if those statements are correct and not and why. The idea is that the students realize about some possible mistakes they made during the class.
