Description

In this lesson, Students learn the vocabulary for family relationships. The lesson starts with a story I tell. This is followed by a controlled writing practice in which Students should write the relationship vocabularies in blank boxes in a woman’s point of view. They will then check their answers in pairs through a speaking using the questions “what’___’s relationship to Linda? Who's___?”. The lesson ends with a semi-controlled practice in writing in which the should draw their family tree. They will then change the papers with their partner's and ask each other the questions introduced. Then they will learn some other new vocabularies using the previous tasks.

Main Aims

  • To provide review of family relationship vocabularies and introduce them to some other new vocabularies in the context of marrying and having children as well as provide them with an accuracy speaking practice in a controlled conversation in the context of special people's relationship to a woman.
  • to provide students with an accuracy speaking practice in a semi controlled conversation in the context of their family members' relationship to them.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide a writing practice in which students use the target language in the context of some special people's relationships to a woman
  • To provide a writing practice in which students use the target language in the context of their family members' relationship to them.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (1-2 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Show myself very happy and say “Hi my friends how are you, I’m pretty fine” saying "today we will learn some new vocabularies about family relationships. But before that I want to review the vocabularies of last session. Do you remember?". show the power point slide including last session vocabularies and review them with some elicitation and C.C.Qs. explain about my brother and his family that just came back from Tehran after 3 years. and the fact that I'm in love with my sister in law.

Exposure (2-4 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

Show Power Point slides from 3 to 8 when telling the story of my brother's life and his wife.

Highlighting (0-1 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

Show Power Point slides 9 to draw their attention to new vocabularies

Clarification (6-8 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

Show Power Point slides from 10 to 15 to draw their attentions to new vocabularies and then clarify M.F.P.A for each item. use some examples to elicit and recycle their pronunciation, intonation, rhythm and connected speech skills through it.

Controlled Practice (2-3 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

give them papers of writing practice in which they should fill in the blank boxes with the vocabularies and say 'What do you see in the picture?' 'I want you to fill in the boxes with the vocabularies you just learned.You do it alone. you've got 1 min' ICQ: 'What are you going to do? How much time have you got?' 'Go ahead' say 'Ok thank you very much. Now 2 By 2 check your answers. Use these question to ask each other: "What’s ____’s relationship to Linda?" and "Who's ___" for EX: What’s Helen’s relationship to Linda? Who's Helen' Then clarify the intonation, rhythm, connected speech and pronunciation of the Ex in Power Point slide 16. Then say 'you have 2 mins.' ICQ: What are u going to do? what questions do you use? how much time do you have? do you work alone or in pairs? 'Ok go ahead' . After that show them the right answers. W/C F.B: "Have you got the right answers?"

Semi-Controlled Practice (4-5 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

say "Now, I want you to draw your family tree with the names, but before that look at Dylan Murphy's family tree to learn how to draw it." then show the slide and say "You have to write the names. just because of lack of space here I didn't do that. You've got 1 minute" I.C.Q: "What are you going to do? How much time do you have? Go ahead" say "Ok, Now change your papers with your partner and ask each other about each other's families. which questions do you ask ?" show the slide and show them the questions again. Demo: Take one of student's paper ask him about his family. Say "You've got 3 minutes" I.C.Q: "What are you going to do? How much time do you have? Go ahead" W/C F.B: Say "Ok, thank you very much" ask 2 people "How many brothers and sisters does your partner have? Do they have twins? What's his brother's name? " I will then introduce them to the words "cousin" " Grandson" "Granddaughter" through previous tasks
