Procedure (35-47 minutes)
Teacher shares screen to a Google Slides Presentation. There are three questions that Ss. will answer. Teacher will ask what the Ss. notice about their answers. (They are either yes or no).
Teacher informs Ss. they will listen to an audio and asnwer three questions. They read the questions. Teacher shares the link then plays the audio.
Teacher shares screen to show a Near Pod activity. Ss. must listen to the audio again and highlight any yes or no questions they hear that uses do. They must also highlight the answers. Teacher will demo how to highlight. Teacher shares the link and plays the audio.
Teacher shares screen to a Google Form. There, Ss. will fill in the blanks with the correct version of Do in the present simple tense. Ss. will work on their own to complete the task. Then they will check answers in BORs. After, during OCFB, results will be checked and any errors will be adressesed and corrected.
Meaning: Teacher explains to Ss. that do is an auxiliary verb and is used to ask Yes or No questions. In this case, it helps the main verb by setting the tense of the question as the present simple tense. Form: Teacher shares screen to show a Google Jam board. There, Ss. will need to put three sentences in the correct order into a table that shows the structure of the questions as well as short answers. Ss. will work together then during OCFB, Teacher will ensure all Ss. are correct before moving on. Next, Teacher will share screen to a Google Slides presentation and explain what pronouns are used with do/don't and does/doesn't. Then, a small excerpt from the audio script will be shown, when Jeanette answers a yes or no question without saying yes or no. Her answer is implied. Teacher will ask Ss. what they think her answer would be and explain that sometimes an implied/hinted answer that is either an implied/hinted yes or no can be used. Next, short answers will be covered briefly with examples to show how details can be added on to answers using excerpts from the audio script. Pronunciation (to be covered AFTER the controlled practice): Teacher will show the correct answers from the CP and guide Ss. to identify the content words (as they are normally stressed in sentences). Teacher reminds them that content words are words with their own meaning (nouns, verbs, adjectives and adverbs). Then, Teacher will play audio clips of each sentence. Ss. will repeat. Linking will be shown between 'do you', the /z/ sound heard in 'does' and 'doesn't', the raise in the voice when asking questions, the stress on Yes and No when answering questions, and, the stress on do/don't/does/doesn't in short answers.
Teachers shares screen to show a Google Doc. There is a table. Ss. must ask each other the ten questions listed. They will put either yes or no depending on what their partner says. They must find at least one thing in common. Teacher will monitor and take notes of any errors heard for DEC.
