Main Aims

To practice reading for gist, specific info and details through a text titled "David Blaine, the new Houdini" in the context of magicians in the past/today
Subsidiary Aims

To provide free speaking practice in the same context
Procedure (45-58 minutes)
-T will show a picture of well-known magician in Turkey and ask Ss what his job is and if they have seen any other magicians onstage or TV -T will elicit answers and asks Ss to discuss what a magician does -Ss will discuss in pairs WCF
-T will give matching exercise HOs (match the words with their definitions) -Ss will work in pairs WCF (For unknown words pictures will be used) -Necessary vocab. will be highlighted focusing on MFP -T will drills, choral and indiv. repetition
-T will ask Ss to walk around and skim the text, paragraphs of which are put on the walls of class -Ss will try to match the headlines (put on the board) with the paragraphs (one headline will be left out) (Ss will be taking notes while walking around to match the headlines) WCF
-T will ask Ss to skim the text to put the photos in the order -Ss will check in pairs WCF
-Ss will get into two teams -T will ask several specific Qs related to text -S will scan and answer those questions -Team with more answers will be the winner WCF
-T will give comprehension Qs HOs -Ss will work in pairs to answer the questions WCF
-T will ask which of David Blaine's stunts they think was the best or the most dangerous and why -Ss will discuss in pairs WCF Delayed error correction, as necessary
-Ss will get into small groups -Ss will asked to compare being a magician to other professions (each group will compare a different profession) WCF -Best profession will be chosen -Delayed error correction as necessary
