Main Aims

To provide product writing practice of a the letters A B and C

Subsidiary Aims

To provide practice of words beginning with A B and C

Procedure (37-49 minutes)

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Sing the Alphabet song and the phonics song. Review all chants

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

write the letter on the board (a, A, b, B, c, C) sound out the letter announce words that start with that letter A(alligator, Apple) B(Bear, Bird) C(Car, Cat)

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

use body gestures to show how the letter is written, count out each stroke, make the student follow my lead and write the letter in the air using their hand

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

allow the students time to trace the letters into their books and to say the names of the pictures (view alphabet vocabulary words)

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

allow time for them to do a semi-controlled practice in the text book, colouring-in letters review in alphabet choice letter pictures

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language
