Teaching writing an opinion paragraph

Description
In this lesson students learn how to write an opinion paragraph using an example. The lesson stars by explaining to students about the topic of their writing and the fact that they should give their personal opinions on their school issues. Then the related vocab is explained ie. opinion-issue- stressed- relaxed- schedule- prevent. Then they should guess the content of the example paragraph and share in verbally with the class. Next step is reading rhe paragraph on their own and compare its content with their guesses. Then teacher starts to explain the topic sentence and paragraphs body and conclusion and students should find each part in the example given. The expressions used to connect the main ideas of the paragraph is noticed and the examples the writer has given to express herself vividly are mentioned as a proper midel of writing. Then the chart in the book is explained by the teacher and filled by students. After sharing their answers and checking them with each other student start to choose a problem at school and fill a chart like the example for their topic and then they write their paragraph. The feedbacks are given by teacher and classmates after everyone reads their paragraphs.

Procedure (28 minutes)
Warm up (3 minutes) • To break the ice and make students familiar with the topic of their writing
Teacher enters the class and talks about the importance of being able to express our criticisms and making our opinions clear.
Exposure (5 minutes) • To become familiar with the related vocabulary
Techer explains the vocabulary on the PowerPoint ie. opinion-issues-schedule-prevent
Focus on TL (5 minutes) • Students should be able to guess the content of the sample paragraph using the given vocabulary
Teacher gives the toic of the sample paragraph and wants the students to make guesses about its content
Clarification (5 minutes) • The content and context of the sample paragraph is cleared
Students read the paragraph individually and then the copmare it to their guesses. The teacher explains the layout and content of the paragraph step by step.
Controled practice (10 minutes) • Students should learn to distinguish different parts of a paragraph
Teacher explains the various parts of the chart in book and then students fill it and check it in groups
