Procedure (47-60 minutes)
T shows ss different pictures of people on holiday. T asks:' What can you see? Where are the people? What are they doing? When do we go on holiday? Is it winter holiday? Do you like to go on holiday? T tells students to work in pairs and discuss: 'What is the best season to go on holiday? why?'
T tells the ss that they will work on some vocabulary related to holidays. Ss are going to circle the correct verb. T demo the first two verbs then ss complete individually, then check in pairs.
T elicits meaning using some photos of collocations; Example: Rent a car Form: verb+ noun(place) Pron: Rent a car /rent/ Example: Go sightseeing Form: verb+ noun Pron: Go sightseeing /ˈsaɪtˌsiː.ɪŋ/ Example: Go on a boat trip Form: verb+ noun Pron: Go on a boat trip /bəʊt/ /trɪp/ Example: Travel by public transport Form: verb+ noun Pron: Travel by public transport /ˌpʌb.lɪk ˈtræn.spɔːt/ Focus on the other collocations Go to museum/ have a picnic/stay in a hotel
T asks ss to work individually and complete the letter with the appropriate verbs collocations, Demo. the T elicits answers for the two first blanks. SS will do the exercise individually, then check in pairs. Feedback T asks if everything is clear, and clarifies if necessary.
T asks ss to think about the last holiday they had then in pairs tell their partners about it using verb/ noun collocations related to holiday. Once they finish telling their peers about their holiday ss go around the classroom and tell each other about their holiday. T tells ss to listen carefully, as they will chose the best holiday. While ss tell each other about their holidays the T monitors . Delayed error correction related to noun/ verb collocations.
