Procedure (32-46 minutes)
T will show real objects to students: a wireless headset, a phone, a notebook, and a laptop. T will ask the students to describe them one by one then T will explain their importance to his daily and professional life: My laptop, notebook and phone are essential to my work I use them on daily basis as have everything related to my work on them from to do lists to contracts. I use my headset whenever I want to focus and isolate myself from my surroundings. These items have a sentimental value to me.
T will teach specific target language for students before the listening: My phone has a sentimental value to me because it has all my work contacts but also since it was a gift from my mother when I started my new job. - Is my phone important to me right now? (Yes) - Is it important to my work? (Yes) - Does it hold a sentimental value? (Yes) Whenever I look at these ornaments it reminds me of my visit to the US - Are these items important to me? (Yes) - Do I share a special memory? (Yes)
Gist: T-S shows a picture of items. T asks the students to try and predict the 6 items that the listing activity is going to be about
T asks Students to read the questions: the object, how he/she describe it? and why it is important to him/here? before listening to the recording. Ss then elicit the specific information and fill in the Grid. once done Ss do peer feedback.
T teaches useful language before the productive task T drills the sentence' I couldn’t live without my laptop’ then asks CCQs to elicit the meaning within the context: I couldn’t live without my laptop because it has all my work-related documents and I use it every day. - Is my laptop important to me right now? (Yes) - Is it important to my work? (Yes) - Do I use it every day? (Yes) My notebook is very valuable to me because it was a gift from my sister - Do I use it every day? (Yes) - Is it an expensive item to buy? (No) - Does it hold a rational or sentimental value? (Sentimental value) I would be lost without my phone because my work depends on it. - Do I use it every day (yes) - Can I work without it (No)
T asks Ss to take 10 min to make a list of 3 objects which are important to them using the useful language. T asks SS through clear ICQs to explain also to write long sentences with explanations on why they selected these 3 items. write down a paragraph to talk about 3 items important to you and tell us why?
T asks ss to disscuss their essays with their partners and then mingle with other ss
T takes notes after observing students speaking and once the productive task is over correct any mpf mistake
