Procedure (45-55 minutes)
What do you see? What is this person doing? You're on a trip to a new country far away from your home and having so much fun. Do you want to call someone back home? Do you want to share memories with someone? What other ways are there to share the memory with them without calling them?
1. Do you remember where I live? I moved to Cupertino about a year ago from South Carolina. Cupertino is known for Apple Park. There are beautiful beaches near and the Yosemite national park is only 4 hours away. Is Cupertino still new to me or old to me? My friend Mari lives in Japan. We haven't seen each other for years. So I decided to tell her about my new life in CA and how I am doing here. 2. What is this? Postcard. I decided to write her a postcard. Do I write on the front or back? (Back) 3. Read the Postcard for 2min. Answer this question individually for 1 min. Do you agree with the answer? 4. This is the structure of the postcard. You write the address on the right side. Put stamp here. You write the date/location and the message on the left side of the postcard. When you need more room to write. Can you write your message here? (No) 5. In pairs put these words in the right column for 2 min. Do you agree with the answer?
1. For greetings, What do we put? Saying hello. Is this writing informal? or formal? For closure, What do we say? We say something like this. What other can we say in greetings closure? 2. For the body, what contents were there? (weather, favorite memory, your latest news) What words can you use to the weather? your favorite memory? latest news? 3. It's been tough. Did my CELTA course finish? (not yet) Was it tough? (yes) Is it tough now? (yes) I've been to Yosemite. Am I talking about the trip I went on in the past? or now? (past) Did come back from the trip? It's scorching. What is this describing? (the weather) What does it mean by scorching? (extremely hot, more than 30) 4. Can you say another adj. here? ex) I started learning piano. It's been great. Which one is right? Can you say rain here? (no) 5. These are adj. to describe the weather.
1. Now we are going to write a postcard to me. You can pretend that you are traveling somewhere. Introduce the place to me. Find and read the guideline in the word. Click on your name and write a postcard to me. Try to use the useful languages on the slide. You have 20 min. 2. How was it? Easy or Hard?
