Main Aims

By the end of the lesson, students will be better able to use a/an, some, any to talk about countable and uncountable nouns in the context of food and drinks.
Subsidiary Aims
-
Students will have been given opportunities for controlled written practice and semi-controlled speaking practice. Students will learn how to speak about quantity in the context of food.
Procedure (48-53 minutes)
1. refer to the previous lesson about drinks and tell that today you are going to talk about food and drinks today. 2. Present pictures of traditional Egyptian food and drinks on PPP page 1,2.
1. Show the pictures with food, use realia to highlight uncountable and countable difference. 2. Present the table and task to distinguish nouns. Demo the first two points. Page 3 3. Give ss 2 minutes to do it, show the answers. Underline the difference between wine (uncountable) and a bottle of wine (countable). 4. 'where do we go to buy food? Let's see what do other people have in their baskets.' 5. Present three people with their basket. Page 4 6. 'what do they have in their basket', show the task. Demo the first. -give ss 3 minutes to find the short answers. CCQ: are you going to give short answers? -when they are back, tell that they are going to breakout rooms to check the answers for 2 minutes. 7. show the answers. Ask if that was easy, difficult or so-so.
1. Meaning. Present the table with examples from the previous exercise. Elicit quantity from the pictures with baskets. 2. Pronunciation. Drill the pronunciation: - 1 sentence, there's an apple. - 1 negative, there aren't any biscuits. - 1 question, is there any milk? 3. Form. Present the table with examples from the previous exercise. -elicit the TL and parts of speech (articles, indefinite pronouns)

1. Demo- tell your ss about your last shopping in supermarket, use TL. Page 7 2. Ask the to think about the last time they went to the supermarket, what did you buy. Give them 30 seconds to make notes. 3. Tell them that now, they are going to tell each other, what they had in their shopping baskets last time. 4. When they are back ask them- 'what did their partner buy?'
1. present SS a picture of a traditional Russian dish, cooked in hot summers. 2. tell about the ingredients. 3. ask ss to think about Egyptian traditional dishes and their ingredients. 4. tell each other about those dishes, using a/an, some, any in breakout rooms for 6 minutes.
