By the end of the lesson, learners will have practiced their speaking skills for accuracy within the same context.
Procedure (45-48 minutes)
Generate interest through the pictures on the slide. Ask Ss to work in small groups and come up with two ideas on how they can save the planet, allow 3 minutes to do so. Then, get class feedback. Spend no more than 2 minutes.
Get Ss to read the dialogue and ask them the question to check the understanding of the text. Allow 1 minute to read the text and answer the question. In pairs, get Ss to compare their answers, allow 1 minute. Then, get class feedback, no more than 2 minutes.
Get Ss to do the guided discovery handout. Allow 7 minutes to do so. Monitor carefully to help the Ss, if needed. Then, put them into pairs and allow 2-3 minutes to check the answers. Then, get class feedback, allow 5 minutes.
Get Ss to do the gap-fill activity with the 'will' structure, allow 6 minutes for this. Then, get Ss check their answers in pairs, spend 2 minutes on that. Monitor closely for the feedback. Afterwards, get class feedback (3 mins).
Make small groups (3-4 people) to play the game. Provide Ss with the demonstration when giving instructions. Ss have to share what will happen to the planet in several years and what they can do to save the planet. Each person in a groups says one short sentence with 'will' and the next person has to repeat what the person said and say their own sentence. You can mix the groups several times. Allow 10 minutes to do the activity. Monitor closely for language feedback. Afterwards, get class feedback by presenting good and bad examples of the target language and eliciting the corrections from the Ss. Allow 3 minutes to do it.
