Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide accuracy speaking practice in a conversation in the context of fictional characters

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-3 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

A picture of fictional characters of a TV series is going to be shown to students. They will have to guess aspects of those presented. Students will have a chance to share their thoughts with their peers in BOR for 2mins.

Exposure (7-7 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

Students will be presented with an authentic and informative text about three characters of a tv series. First, through the (gist) question "What type of text is it? ", they are expected to choose informative. They will have a minute to read it and discuss with their peers in BOR. Subsequently, students will have to choose true or false for six statements that are written in the type of grammar language that is going to be studied in the lesson. Students will have 2mins available in BOR to answer and check the answers with their peers before OCFB. Students will be exposed to the grammar language in a google site that has the reference text and the form that students need to respond.

Clarification (10-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

Grammar language utilized in the exposure stage will be presented to students. In peers, students will be expected to match the meaning to the sentences containing the relative clauses. This guided discovery activity will reinforce their understanding of the language while they check the meaning with their fellow students. After 2min in BOR, OCFB will be carried out for meaning. Then another guided activity but for Form will take place. Students will identify the type of clauses present in the sentences and key words that constitute a relative clause. OCFB will be carried out after 2mins in BOR. Key aspects of Form will also be elicited by FCQs. Appropiacy will be adresses and Pronunciation of three sentences will be drilled.

Controlled Practice (8-8 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Students will be presented with a Goggle Form where they are expected to identify mistakes (if any) for sentences containing relative clauses. Students have to write down the right answer. After a demo by the teacher is presented, students will be able to complete the activity with peers in BOR for a duration of 4min, . OCFB for the answers will be provided.

Semi-Controlled Practice (5-5 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

(If there are no delays and/ or the other activities are covered efficiently) Students will be presented with a semi controlled practice aimed to reinforce relative clause creation with the right relative pronouns. Students will be provided 4mins to share with their peers imaginative answers for specific main clauses, leaving them with the option of creating their own relative clauses. If carried out, this activity will pave the way for the freeir practice. After a Demo by the teacher, Students will go to BOR. -The Semicontrol practice's time is susceptible to be utilized during the CP if needed. It should be considered a backup activity only.

Free Practice (7-7 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Students are provided with pictures about fictional characters just like in the lead in in case they want to focus their conversation about those. Students are provided with the chance of describing any character and place, with sentences containing relative pronouns/ clauses. They will be in BOR with peers sharing their thoughts. OCFB for some of the sentences is expected to be given.

Feedback/ DEC (5-5 minutes) • to correct any mistake by students identified in previuos stages

Some examples from written or spoken material produced by the students in any of the CP of FP stages will be presented to the class. The material can have mistakes or be a good example of language usage. If time allows, students will be send to BOR for 2 mins to identify possible mistakes. DEC can be carried out as a group after students are done in BOR.
