Main Aims

  • To provide detailed and specific information listening practice using a text about describing the weather.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking and lexis practice describing the weather in the context of weather conditions.

Procedure

Warmer (5-7 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Ask the next riddles related to weather: -What has an eye but can't see? -A hurricane -What man cannot live inside a house? A snowman -Which is faster, hot or cold? Hot, you can easily catch a cold.

Pre-Listening (15-18 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

Complete the handout: crossword related with weather vocabulary. -Show the student a chart that contrasts the weather of two cities over a whole year, and ask: what can you observe? What are the differences between the lines?

While-Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

-Tell the student he is going to listen to an audio comparing the weather from two cities. -Tell the student he will complete a handout by circling the correct word as he listens the audio. *Repeat the audio a second time if needed.

Post-Reading/Listening (15-20 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

1. Complete an exercise by answering some questions aboout the weather from the student's city. 2. Open discussion: The student will discuss some questions about the seasons of the year and the weather.
