Main Aims

  • To provide practice in part 2 of the IELTS speaking exam in the context of technology.
  • To familiarize candidates with part (2) in the IELTS speaking exam and how to approach it.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide candidates with the useful language that can be used to get the highest band in the same context.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T shows candidates some pictures of the latest technological devices. T elicits candidates' responses. T asks follow-up questions to stimulate students to speak.

Exposure (5-7 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

T asks candidates to watch a video to answer specific questions. What is the problem with the Blackberry? What is the problem with Apple? What is the best present for a kid on his birthday? T elicits candidates' answers and provides feedback.

Useful Language (11-13 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

Task (1) T asks candidates to match each phrase to each definition. T asks ICQs. T allows enough time to match the phrases to its definition. T asks candidates to check their answers together.
