To provide listening and reading for gist through eliciting the meaning of expressions through controlled activities
Procedure (37-45 minutes)
_1_ Picture & Speak: Post a picture illustration in three parts of a flowing river and water falls and discuss it using the words in the box 2 a-c. Talk about nature, water, the flow of life...
_2_ 1. INSTRUCTION: I will hand out words, you will place them above the image where they have meaning. ICQ: with your word, will you place it above the image or below the image? ABOVE 2. PW with new layer of images of people during the Gold Rush to place over first images and discuss. - INSTRUCTION: For all of you. I'll hold up images an you tell me where to place them. ICQ: Who placed the 4 images? ME or you? ME (you call out/tell me which word to go to. 2a)b)c) Fill in Gap and turn page over. INSTRUCTIONS: fill in words in box and turn page over. ICQ when you finish to you turn page over or fold it? Turn Over
_3_ Listening & New Expression Prep Before we listen we will have a matching words/these expression game. 2 groups. INSTRUCTION: Get in 2 groups, You each have 5 expressions to match. once they are all matched, put them with the matching Time is Money image or Food for Thought Image. ICQ - When you come to the board will you put the expression anywhere or under the correct image? Image 4 - LISTEN CD-TRACK 21 HO - fill in gaps
_5_ -Metaphor 5 - Activity - Word Scramble in pairs and class feedback and discussion. INSTRUCTION: PW - In each envelop is a jumbled up sentence. Unjumble the sentence with one of the expressions we have learned today. Put sentences in correct sentence form with partner and then we will Check as a class for correct sentence form and meaning. ICQ: will you work in pairs or individually? pairs Will you throw what's in the envelope up in the air like confetti or put it in correct sentence form? Sentence form
