TP 6, Where did you....
Elementary (A1) level

Description

In this lesson students will learn to ask Wh questions in past simple. They will have a little quiz at the beginning. Then the form " When did you..." will be explained, modeled and drilled. They will have a small controlled practice that will be followed by a freer speaking activity.

Materials

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification and practice of past simple wh question form in the context of being curious.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency and accuracy speaking practice in a conversation in the context of being curious.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Greet Ss. Tell them what I did over the weekend. I read about famous people of Turkey, Mehmet Akif Ersoy, Ataturk. Ask some questions " where did M.Ersoy live?, When did he die?"

Exposure (5-6 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

Greet Ss. Hand out a quiz about Ataturk that Ss will so in pairs. While they are doing I write a question from the quiz on the board. Then check their answers.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

Focus Ss on the sentence on the board. Where did Ataturk come from? question word aux verb sub infinitive Write another sentence and ask ss to do it When did he become the first president? quest word aux verb sub infinitive Hand out the chart in ex 8 a. Ss do it pairs. Check answers Write some verbs on the board ( eat, go, come) Ask ss to make questions with these verbs. What did you eat yesterday? where did you go? when did you come home? Draw their attention to the auxiliary and infinitive.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Ss will do ex 9a in groups. They will work in different corners of the room and stick the words in order to make sentences on the walls. Groups check each others answers. A-B-C-A. Then a student from one group asks loudly from a student from other group one of the questions " Ulvi, where did you go yesterday?"

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Ss will have a chat in Curiosity cafe sit a cafe seating.They'll ask each other questions with "Where did you.... What did you.... When did you.... " each time I clap they change their partners.

Follow up (3-4 minutes) • To correct students' errors

Make some notes of their mistakes on the broad. Elicit and correct the mistakes.
