Description

This is a listening lesson that has the intention to provide students with opportunities to develop skills and to interact with an authentic text.

Materials

Main Aims

  • To provide listening practice for specific information and more detailed comprehension in the context of mysteries of everyday life.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a discussion in the context of personal experiences.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will greet the Ss. I will ask Ss to answer the following questions: 1. How often do you get hiccups? How do you usually cure them? 2. Do you feel afraid of sneezing in public? I will nominate one or two Ss to give opinions.

Pre-Reading/Listening (4-6 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

MEANING: I will show students some sentences: - Women don’t usually go bald. - Most of us have a ticklish spot somewhere. - He once sleepwalked to the middle of the road outside his home at 1 a.m. - I can't stop yawning - I must be tired. FORM: 1. I will elicit the Form from the Ss. PRONUNCIATION: 1. I will model words. 2. I will ask Ss to identify the number of syllables and stress. 3. I will ask Ss to drill.

While-Reading/Listening #1 (7-10 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

I will ask Ss to look at the questions presented on a slide. I will ask Ss to listen to the audio and answer the questions on the Google Forms. I will provide Ss with an OCFB.

While-Reading/Listening #2 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

I will ask Ss to read the questions and some explanations presented on a slide. I will ask Ss to listen to the audio and fill the Google Forms. I will ask Ss to work in pairs via Breakout Rooms. I will show Ss the answers on a slide. I will check their answers in an Open Class feedback.

Post-Reading/Listening (10-12 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

I will ask Ss to work in pairs and discuss the following question via the Breakout Rooms: - Which answers surprised you the most? Why? Finally, I will check Error correction from what the Ss expressed.
