Unit 8B - Grammar
Upper Intermediate level
Materials
Main Aims
-
To provide clarification and practice of should have + past participle & third conditional in the context of dilemmas
Subsidiary Aims
-
To make students construct sentences with third conditional and "should have + past participle" easily.
Procedure (35-45 minutes)
First of all, T tries to elicit the word "regret". Then, T shows a slideshow in which there are some words related to regretful events and holds a class discussion about those images.
T shows two sentences taken from the audio they have listened to and asks related questions about these two sentences (p. 96). T asks Ss to look at those questions and find answers in pairs in the breakout rooms. T again shows two sentences in which Ss can see questions about "should have + past participle" and holds a class discussion about those sentences.
T gives details about how we form third conditional and clarifies important points about should have + past participle. Later, T uses some concept check questions and tries to answer any possible questions.
T asks Ss to do the activity a on p. 149 individually and then pair-check in the breakout rooms. For the activity b on the same page, after Ss do the exercise individually, they are shown the correct answers.
Ss are provided with a Padlet link in which they are going to write their biggest regret by using third conditional or "should have + past participle".
